During the winter season, Cape Cod is undeniably cozy, and we savor these quiet, slower months. Even so, here at the Tavern, we like to keep things lively and interesting. It was out of this desire that our ‘Centerboard’ dinners were born. We pick a theme first, whether it’s “Taste of the World” or “California Coast,” then create an entirely new menu centered around wine or beer from that region. Our chefs get to stay creative in the kitchen — something they love — and locals gather for delicious food in our cozy upstairs dining. We consider it a win-win.

On Wednesday, in collaboration with Falmouth Wine & Spirits and Ruby Wines, Quicks Hole had one of its best Centerboard dinners yet, with a 5-course meal paired alongside wines from Argentina. The dining room was bustling with people as everyone arrived and found their seats.

The meal began with a bright sparkling rose mendoza (a blast of summer!) and was followed by the 1st course: braised octopus, grilled artichokes, and crispy chorizo.

Everyone raved over the second course — housemade lobster empanadas with smoked paprika aioli — and the chefs happily received several rounds of applause from enthusiastic diners.

A favorite at our table was the carbonada stew, perfectly savory and sweet from diced pear, artfully served in a roasted squash and paired with a plush Cabernet Franc. Delicious.

Steak with shoestring potatoes and fresh chimichurri sauce was the 4th course, to which several people asked, “can this be on the regular menu?”

By the end of the meal, safe to say wine was aplenty, and bellies full.
