Cape Cod live music Quicks Hole

Musical talent coming to us from all over the globe this year thanks to the hard work of impresario (and Woods Hole native son) David Isenberg who is bringing his favorite ensembles to the Quicks Hole Tavern this summer.  All shows will start at 9 PM, require reservations and take place in the first floor pub.  Hot nights + cool jazz = the perfect summer elixir.

For easy reference here is calendar with all performances plus links to each evening’s unique reservation site.  Cash is required at the door (tickets range from $20 – $30 per person), and 100% of it goes to the musicians.  Quicks Hole Tavern asks for a $10 minimum, and all attendees must be over 21.  Quicks Hole Tavern is located at 29 Railroad Avenue on the waterfront in Woods Hole.

July 13-14, Joe Craven. “Everything Joe Craven touches turns to music,” says mandolinist David Grisman. As “utility infielder” for Jerry Garcia’s acoustic quartet, Joe played fiddle, mandolin, tenor guitar, tin can, bedpan, cookie tin, banjo, mouth bow, canjoe, cuatro, berimbau, balalaika, boot ‘n lace and double-necked whatever. Reservations strongly recommended: July 13, July 14  All shows start at 9:00 PM.

July 27-29, Rhythm Future Quartet, Gypsy jazz with Olli Soikkeli (lead guitar), Jason Anick (violin), Max O’Rourke (rhythm guitar), Greg Loughman (bass). Olli, from Finland, wise beyond his 22 years, plays like Django Reinhardt would have played if he’d had all ten fingers. Jason, who was recruited by John Jorgenson on the strength of his youtube videos, still holds the violin chair in Jorgenson’s quintet, and teaches jazz violin on the Berklee faculty. Together the band’s musical taste spans from Django to Bird and Michael Jackson. Reservations strongly recommended: July 27, July 28, July 29. All three shows at Quicks Hole Tavern, Woods Hole, starting at 9:00 PM

August 3-5, The Hot Jazz Jumpers: early jazz from Appalachia & New Orleans to Gullah & Geechee with Mona’s mainstay Nick Russo (guitar, banjo), broadway star Betina Hershey (guitar, vocals), creative vocalist Miles Griffith (vocals, voice, singing and then some!), the rhythmic David Pleasant (percussion & vocals). Reservations strongly recommended: August 3, August 4, August 5.  All three shows at Quicks Hole Tavern, Woods Hole, 9:00 PM.

August 10-11, Grant Gordy Quartet, featuring six-year David Grisman Quintet guitarist Grant Gordy, with an all-star, prize-winning band of Alex Hargreaves (violin), Dominick Leslie (mandolin) & Ian Hutchinson (bass). If you’ve seen Alex and Dominick in previous visits to Woods Hole, you know what’s in store. If not, expect a bluegrass-tinged night of blazing solos, driving rhythms and teamwork worthy of the Boston Celtics in the Bird/Parrish/DJ/McHale era. Reservations strongly advised: August 10, August 11.  Both nights at Quicks Hole Tavern, Woods Hole, 9:00 PM.

August 12,  Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton: It is a mystery that somebody so young has mastered so many kinds of music – hot jazz, early blues, authentic cajun, genuine Appalachian, Broadway standards, etc. – on so many instruments – guitar, banjo, piano, violin, bones, etc., – in just about every style. A national treasure, Paxton was recently named Artistic Director of the Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival. One night only! Reservations strongly recommended: make them here. Quicks Hole Tavern, Woods Hole, 9:00 PM.

Phew!  It’s going to be quite a “hot” summer.  For more info follow David’s Woods Hole Music Blog here.  For questions about reservations, please contact David at isen@isen.com.
